Botox Brow Lift and Frown Treatment
BOTOX FOR FROWN LINES
The frown lines between the eyes are the most common area treated with Botox. In fact, when Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in 2002, the approval indication was for the glabellar frown lines. It’s been estimated that some 12 million treatments have been performed since that time. In addition, Botox use as expanded in an “off-label” fashion to treat multiple areas of the face, including horizontal frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, chin dimpling, lip lines, “gummy smiles”, down-turned mouth corners, TMJ symptoms, and most recently migraine headaches. The popularity of treating the frown lines with Botox is the high rate of patient satisfaction with the results. It relaxes the frown, and in the process smoothes out the vertical lines between the brows that can make you look “angry” or “unapproachable”, even when you are not. Many of us frown unconsciously throughout the day, whether it’s because of the glare of the sun or concentrating on difficult tasks during the work day.
FROWN LINE TREATMENT CAN LIFT YOUR BROWS!
One of the little known benefits of treating the frown lines with Botox is that if it’s done properly, it can actually lift your brows. The effect is more dramatic in women than in men, mostly because at baseline men tend to have flat, horizontal brow positions whereas women tend to have a more natural arch to their brows. The brow lift occurs because the function of the frown muscle is to pull the brows downward and inward, and this is no longer possible when Botox is injected into the muscle. Hence, the brows drift upward in their resting position, helped by the upward pull of the forehead muscle. Take a close look at the color photo below, which is an unretouched photo of Dr. Lawton following a Botox treatment on himself!) The photo is 7 days post treatment of only the left side of his frown with 12.5 units of Botox (remember, the left side of his frown appears in the right side of the photo). The right side of his frown is untreated. Notice that his left brown position is significantly higher. Also, notice that because of the lift, the left eye is open wider than the right and the skin of the lid is not resting right on the lid margin. The effect this creates makes one look less tired, more refreshed and rested.
HOW MUCH BOTOX IS NEEDED FOR A FROWN/BROW LIFT?
The subject in the photo would need the equivalent of about 25-30 units to treat the frown and create a brow lift. Men require higher doses of Botox than women, and the average female frown and brow lift would require 20-25 units. At Bella Luce Medispa, we have a special rate of $8.50 per unit for new clients at their first visit, and the ongoing rate is only $9 per unit. Dr. Lawton does all the Botox injections as Bella Luce Medispa, and he is an Allergan Black Diamond Injector, the highest status that Allergan awards its participating physician injectors. He offers complimentary consultations as well. Call us today at 714-846-5950 and we’ll be happy to answer all your questions and set up an appointment for you.
